Palestine knock out Sudan to top Group F at Arab Cup U-20

Palestine beat Sudan 5-3 on Monday night at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz City Stadium in Abha to top Group F of the 2022 Arab Cup U-20.

With one win, Palestine lead the table with three points, on goal difference from Morocco who had also beaten Sudan (4-2) in their opening group fixture. The Sudanese team officially bid farewell to the tournament.

Palestine took the lead on 31 minutes, through Mohammed Mahmoud, before Mohammed Awad equalized for Sudan 10 minutes later.

Four minutes into the second half, Ahmed Abdel Qader gave Sudan the lead, but Munir Al-Badarin equalized for Palestine in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot.

The Sudanese team retook the lead five minutes later through Amjad Jibril, before Palestine came back yet again to equalize through Qais Al-Hattab on 83 minutes.

The match looked like it was heading for a draw when Mohammed Sandoqa scored Palestine’s fourth goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Danny Derbas added the fifth goal five minutes later.

The final Group F match will take place between Palestine and Morocco next Thursday.

In Monday’s other matches, Bahrain beat Djibouti 2-0 in Group E. With three points they now sit in second place, behind Tunisia on goal difference. The group’s final match will take place between Djibouti and Tunisia on Thursday.
